Conclusions:

 

  1. Digoxin treatment increased, whereas ouabain treatment decreased the growth rate of Tetrahymena.
  2. Double digoxin treatment  decreased the growth.
  3. Ouabain treatment increased the growth rate of progeny generations and this was not influenced by ouabain reexposure.
  4. Both digoxin and ouabain imprinting enhanced the later binding (incorporation) of the appropriate glycoside.
