Conclusions:

 

  1. Histamine is the most effective phagocytosis stimulating agent for frog macrophages as model cells for comparison with Tetrahymena.
  2. Frog macrophage cells can differentiate between serotonin and its relative, the plant hormone indoleacetic acid.
  3. The effects and ineffectiveness are very similar to those of Tetrahymena.
  4. The results support the idea that hormonal effects can be deduced to unicellular level.
