The 'Optimal' Chemotactic Ligand
Chemotactic ability of more than 300 ligands were tested in our group. The results obtained demonstrated that Tetrahymena (as probably other Protozoa) has a highly selective capacity for chemotaxis. Amino acids, oligopeptide type ligands; hormones, vasoactive peptides, chemokines, lectins, extracellular matrix proteins were assayed even as water soluble steroids, volatile oils or catecholamines (References).
